Wilderness Module
The SOLO Schools Wilderness Module, hosted by NWLI, is a five-day street-to-backcountry bridge course that equips urban healthcare professionals with the skills needed to deliver high-quality emergency care in remote environments. Designed for licensed EMTs, EMRs, and Paramedics, the course builds on urban clinical foundations and adds wilderness-specific assessment, treatment, and decision-making when standard resources and rapid transport are unavailable. Course format and approach This intensive, hands-on program uses scenario-based training, field simulations, and practical improvisation exercises to teach students how to adapt equipment, prioritize care, and manage prolonged patient care in austere settings. Instruction emphasizes teamwork, risk management, patient packaging and evacuation, and the ethical and logistical considerations unique to backcountry incidents. Who should attend • Licensed EMTs and Paramedics seeking Wilderness EMT (WEMT) certification upgrade. • Licensed EMRs seeking Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification upgrade. • Clinicians who regularly operate in or advise teams that travel into remote, time‑delayed environments.
